Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving and unity. Now in its eleventh year, Giving Tuesday is recognized as an opportunity for people and communities to come together in the spirit of generosity. 

The first Giving Tuesday was held on December 4, 2012. Today, the day continues to be recognized worldwide.

Giving Tuesday is an annual day of giving held on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This year, Giving Tuesday will be held on December 2, 2025. 

Following traditional days of spending, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday stands in contrast. Instead, Giving Tuesday is focused on the act and spirit of giving back to children and families in need.

There are several ways to participate in Giving Tuesday this giving season.

History of Giving Tuesday Giving 

Tuesday was founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation. It didn’t take long at all for Giving Tuesday to be embraced and gain awareness across social media. The hashtag #GivingTuesday is part of the official name.

Yes! Giving Tuesday is international. The Global Day of giving is celebrated around the world.  In fact, 100 countries, from Australia and Argentina to Venezuela and Zambia, are home to official national Giving Tuesday movements of their own. 

Giving Tuesday is significant because it can inspire millions of people to give back in whatever ways they choose.  Giving Tuesday celebrates generosity and can foster friendships and cultivate creativity.
