Militarization of Aid in Gaza: Save the Children US Response

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (June 6, 2025)—In response to the new hub system for aid distribution in Gaza, Save the Children President & CEO Janti Soeripto said:

"The aid delivery system introduced by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) last week is no way to keep children safe. Its launch rapidly deteriorated into chaos and turmoil.

"The GHF's militarized aid hubs are wasting time that children do not have. It is unthinkable that civilians threatened with looming famine have been killed while seeking food.  Rather than saving lives, even more people are dying at these so-called "humanitarian" sites.

"Over one million children in Gaza are struggling to survive, but humanitarians are being prevented from delivering them the aid that would save their lives while the international community does nothing to help. While the over two-month blockade of aid into Gaza is technically over, the little aid that has now entered the Strip is out of reach to most families. Sick, injured, and malnourished people should not be required to travel miles for the chance of getting food, and they should not face gunfire when they do.

"Humanitarian aid is stuck on the wrong side of the border. Save the Children has essential supplies for children and families waiting in trucks and warehouses. Our team in Gaza continues to provide services as we can, yet we have, at best, four weeks' supply of some essential medicines—including basic antibiotics.

"No child should experience war, yet children in Gaza continue to experience death, destruction, and deprivation daily.

"Save the Children's very existence is for times like this. We address the unique needs of children caught in conflict. Food alone is not enough. They need treatment for malnutrition and injuries, mental health support, education, protection and family tracing when they lose their caregivers, and more.

"Thousands of children and babies in Gaza have been killed. We know what is needed to prevent further death and suffering: a definitive ceasefire and full humanitarian access and aid into Gaza. It is unconscionable that we’re wasting precious time not making both things a reality."
